Two-Part Public TV Series on Dental Access Disparities and Midlevel Providers Tentatively Scheduled to Begin Tonight A producer at the PBS "NewsHour," the network's one-hour nightly report, informed us this morning that the program may run tonight the first of a two-part look at oral health care disparities. (Check local listings for times on your public TV stations.)   One part of the two-night series will examine the larger picture of oral health disparities in America and is likely to include a look at charitable care, using a recent Virginia Dental Association Mission of Mercy event as an example of both the terrible need that exists among some populations and one way in which dentistry responds to that need.  The second will focus on Alaska's dental therapists, including the ADA's and Alaska Dental Society's opposition to that program. ADA President Dr. William Calnon gave "NewsHour" reporter Betty Ann Bowser an extensive interview at his Rochester, NY, office last month.  "NewsHour" also traveled to Alaska to document therapists and their supervisors in the field, and interviewed Alaska Dental society President Dr. Christine Moleski.  Dr. Moleski's interview focused almost exclusively on the therapist program; Dr. Calnon's conversation covered the breadth of dental disparities while making clear the ADA's unequivocal opposition to non-dentists performing surgical/irreversible procedures. ADA staff has been working with the show's producers since late summer, serving as a resource by pointing them toward the MoM project and explaining to them that workforce issues are only one of several barriers that impede millions of Americans from attaining good oral health.  That work ultimately led to the second part of the story, which focuses on the broader access picture, rather than exclusively on therapists.   We will not have definitive word on when the two parts will actually air until late in the day.  As is always the case in the news business, things can change at the last minute, depending on the events of the day.  For more information, please contact Richard Green in Public Affairs, greenr@ada.org, (202) 789-5170 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting            (202) 789-5170      end_of_the_skype_highlighting. NBDE(NATIONAL BOARDS DENTAL EXAM) - USA

1. I have completed! my BDS but not internship. Its is any problem for doing DOS or NBDE exams ?

Ans : No one must complete the entire BDS course along with compulsory rotatory Internship to be eligible for DDS .

2.1 have just finished my 2nd year BDS? Can I get admission in to BDS?

Ans : Please note for admission in to DDS one needs to complete the BDS degree . But any one who has completed 2nd year of BDS is eligible for Part I exam of NBDE in USA. But official admission can take place only after-completing the BDS degree.

3.Whats NBDE part 1 ?

Ans : This exam is conducted by American Denta! Association (ADA). NBDE part 1 exam is conducted through out the year in approx 300 centres in USA / CANADA. This exam is fully computerized with 400 MCQs with no negative marking.

4. I gave one attempt in 2011.If I pass will I have a second attempt in 2012?

Ans : No , Once you pass Part 1 , there is no scope for reattempting the exam . For admission one preferably needs more than 87 percentile score.

The more the score the better it is.

5. Pass fail system in 2010 or 2012?

Ans: Pass /fail system is from January 2012 but no reattempt clause is valid from Jan 2010.

6. What is GPA?

Ans : GPA is grand percentile aggregate . It is evaluated ECE (www.ece.org) which gives educational equivalence for each educational credential.

7. How important is GPA ?

Ans: The answer is the higher the better. But it plays a significant role if your NBDE score are less. You can always cover with your low GPA by getting a good percentile in NBDE Part 1 and a good score in TOEFL.

8. How much GPA is considered good?

Ans: Anything above 3 Is good. For students with GPA below 2, will need to get good marks in NBDE Part 1 and TOEFL.

9. How to apply for DDS after BDS ?

12. I scored only 80 percentile in NBDE part 1 , what can I do?

Ans : 'With score below 85 percentile, getting an addmission is very tough.

But you can improve your profile by adding few observerships and perceptorship certificates and then going for NBDE part 2 and getting a good score in. part 2,

13. Do I need to clear both NBDE part 1 & 2 for addmission into DDS?

Ans : Most universities accept Only part 1 scores , but for some you need both. You can get addmission with only part 1 scores but you need to clear part 2 before your DDS completion.
